I recorded this in one take at the California Lutheran University's digital studio back in 2004 in kind memory of my Harvard theory professor, David Lewin.
I overdubbed my short instrumental improvisation (taqaseem) over my own bourdon (drone).
For those maqam buffs, it begins with the sad, "sabaa 'ala yakah", then moves to the hopeful "nahawand ('ala yakah"), then ends with biyati.
